3rd Practice. Charts and some functions in Excel.

Exercise 1.

In this practice we are going to work with the Excel program. There are two versions installed in the class computers (2007 and 2010) so I have included below two links which lead you to the tutorials you can use to solve these exercises.

Firstly you have to visit the webpage of EUROSTAT. As you can see there, you will find  lots of information about European countries.
Find in the “Tables by theme” section the “Total unemployment rate” and save it as an “xls” file.

Open this file using Excel and then work in the following tasks:

1) Insert a line chart in the second sheet showing the evolution of the unemployment rate of EU 28 countries, Euro area, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and Norway. You have to select the information from 2005 to 2015 years.

2) In the third sheet insert a vertical bar graph of the year 2015 to compare the different unemployment rates within the countries. Explain what three countries have the highest and the lowest unemployment rates.

3) Count the number of times the unemployment rate exceeded 9.5 per cent from 2005 to 2015.

4) Obtain the arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means of the unemployment rate for Spain, France and Euro area. Present this information in a table using borders, formats for the numbers (two decimals), etc.

When you finish this work you have to send it to the teachers e-mail.

If you have any doubts while working, please, don’t be shy and let me know.
